Winner of the San Antonio Express News Readers' Choice Awards "2005 Critics' Favorite New Restaurant" and 2006 and 2007 "Critics' Favorite Thai," Sawasdee (pronounced Sah-wah-dee) has quickly become one of San Antonio's favorite thai restaurants. Thailand, the kingdom of Thiland, a country located in Southeast Asia, bordering Laos and Cambodia to the east, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia to the south, and the Andaman Sea and Myanmar to the west. Thailand is also known as Siam, which was the country's official name until May 11, 1949. The word Thai, which means freedom in the Thai language, is also the name of the Thai people. Simple Thai Words, Hello/Goodbye, Sawasdee Krup(Male), Sawasdee Ka(Female), Thank you, Kob Kun Krup(Male), Kob Kun Ka(Female).

 



Owner and head chef Pornthip "Pam" T. opened Sawasdee March 7, 2005. The restaurant is named after her maiden name "Sawasdee" which is also the traditional Thai greeting. Sawasdee was chosen by the International school of Bangkok Network to cater their 300+ attendee reunion dinner at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel on July 27, 2006. It also was on of the featured restaurants in the February - March 2007 issue of San Antonio Magazine.

Sawasdee Specialty Dishes:

Prawn Curry
Tender prawns in dark red curry, mixed with practically caramelized chunks of pineapple, bright red tomato, deep green Thai basil and a golden coconut milk sauce, then served in a pineapple half-shell.

Spicy Eggplant
